Jewelry Care
How to Care for Sterling Silver Jewelry
Sterling Silver is comprised of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals (usually copper). This combo allows Sterling to be more durable, but can lead to tarnish.
Regularly wearing your pieces of Sterling silver can promote ‘self-polishing’ with your skins natural oils. Otherwise you can polish your pieces regularly with a soft cloth to remove tarnish.
Store in a dry, airtight container to prevent oxidation and tarnish.
Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals, bleach, chlorine, and salt water as well as extreme temperatures to avoid discoloration or deterioration to integrity of the piece.
You can easily clean your jewelry at home with a mixture of warm water, dish soap, and a soft bristled toothbrush. Let your piece soak on the soapy solution for a fe minutes before gently scrubbing your piece and drying it off with a soft or microfiber cloth. please note not all stones can be submerged in water
*Occasionally we like to make mixed metal pieces of jewelry with elements of Brass. The same above applies to jewelry containing Brass.*
A Note on Gemstones
Certain Gemstones, such as Opals or Pyrite, should never get wet.
Opals are highly porous and are prone to their colors altering or turning milky or yellow, which CANNOT BE UNDONE.
Pyrite when in contact with water causes a chemical reaction which can produce sulfuric acid. We definitely don’t want that on our skin…
Please inform yourself on what stones you wear. Most Quartz based gemstones are safe to get wet (such as Amethyst, Moonstone, Labradorite…) but always research and make sure to ensure the best care for your jewelry!
Additionally, some stones are incredibly soft and require more conscious consideration of when and where we wear them to ensure their saftey. Feel free to reach out of you are uncertain of how strong your gemstones are.
